## What Is This Service & Who Is It For?

The kitchen is the most electrically demanding room in your home. Multiple high-power appliances, water proximity, and the need for practical, well-positioned sockets and lighting make professional electrical installation essential — not optional.

At LJK Electrical, we handle all aspects of kitchen electrical work across Surrey. Whether you're fitting a brand-new kitchen, upgrading your lighting, or adding circuits for new appliances, we deliver safe, neat, and fully certified installations.

We coordinate directly with your kitchen fitter to ensure first-fix wiring is completed before units go in, and second-fix connections are made at exactly the right time. This prevents delays, rework, and the common problems that arise when trades don't communicate.

Our clients include homeowners renovating their kitchens, property developers fitting new kitchens in refurbishment projects, and landlords upgrading rental properties to meet safety standards.

## Why Kitchen Electrics Require a Specialist

Kitchen electrical work is notifiable under Part P Building Regulations. This means it must be carried out by a qualified electrician and certified — or inspected and approved by your local Building Control authority (which costs more and takes longer).

Incorrectly wired cooker circuits, hob connections, and appliance feeds are among the most common issues we see. Undersized cable, missing RCD protection, and poor terminations create overheating risks — particularly dangerous in a room full of combustible materials.

DIY or unqualified kitchen wiring can void your home insurance, reduce your property's value, and create safety hazards that aren't immediately visible. Many problems only emerge when appliances are under full load.

Poor lighting design is another common issue. Inadequate task lighting over worktops makes the kitchen harder to use, while badly positioned downlights create shadows and glare. Professional lighting design makes a significant difference to both functionality and aesthetics.

## How We Handle Kitchen Electrical Projects

1

### Design Consultation

We review your kitchen plans, discuss socket positions, lighting layout, and appliance requirements. We liaise with your kitchen fitter if applicable.

2

### First Fix Wiring

Before kitchen units are installed, we run cables for all circuits — cooker, hob, extractor, sockets, lighting, and any dedicated appliance feeds.

3

### Consumer Unit Check

We verify your consumer unit can handle the new circuits. If an upgrade is needed, we include it in the project.

4

### Second Fix & Connections

After units are fitted, we connect all appliances, install sockets and switches, fit lighting, and complete the wiring.

5

### Testing & Certification

Every circuit is tested and you receive full Part P certification. We don't leave until everything works perfectly.

## Why Choose LJK Electrical for Kitchen Electrical Installation

### Seamless Coordination

We work alongside your kitchen fitter, tiling contractor, and plumber to keep the project on schedule.

### Every Appliance Covered

Cookers, induction hobs, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, American-style fridges, instant hot water taps — we wire them all.

### Professional Lighting Design

Task lighting over worktops, ambient LED strips under cabinets, pendant lights over islands — designed for function and aesthetics.

### Future-Proof Socket Layout

We install enough sockets (including USB) in the right positions so you never run out of plug space.

### Clean, Hidden Wiring

Cables are routed behind units and in safe zones. No visible cable runs or messy installations.

### Full Part P Certification

All kitchen electrical work is notifiable. We self-certify through NAPIT — saving you time and money.

## Kitchen Electrical Services — In Detail

Cooker and Hob Circuits — We install dedicated 32A or 45A circuits using 6mm² or 10mm² cable depending on the appliance rating. Induction hobs often require higher-rated circuits than gas hobs, and we specify correctly based on the manufacturer's data sheet.

Extractor Fan Installation — We install and wire cooker hood extractors, ceiling-mounted extractors, and through-wall extraction fans. We ensure compliance with Building Regulations Part F (ventilation) as well as Part P (electrics).

Under-Cabinet LED Lighting — LED strip lighting or individual LED puck lights under wall units provide essential task lighting. We use driver-powered LED systems (not plug-in strips) for a clean, permanent, and dimmable installation.

Pendant and Feature Lighting — Kitchen islands and breakfast bars often benefit from pendant lights. We install ceiling roses, junction boxes, and dimmer circuits for pendant lighting that complements your kitchen design.

Socket Layout — Modern kitchens need more sockets than you think. We typically recommend a minimum of 6–8 worktop-level sockets (including USB-C charging sockets), positioned to avoid tile lines and splashback edges. Behind-unit sockets for built-in appliances are also installed during first fix.

Integrated Appliance Connections — Integrated dishwashers, ovens, wine coolers, and microwaves require correctly rated fused connection units (FCUs) or switched spur outlets. We position these for easy access during servicing.

Consumer Unit Upgrades — If your existing consumer unit doesn't have capacity for new kitchen circuits, we upgrade it as part of the project. This ensures all new circuits are properly protected from day one.
